The West Greenwich Preservation and Heritage Commission was established in 2024 in order to to advise the Town Council in the preservation of the town of West Greenwich’s history, and to develop and carry out programs to document, support, and celebrate the cultural heritage of West Greenwich.
The initial focus areas of the Commission will include: 1) collecting and organizing information and artifacts related to the history West Greenwich and its people; 2) establishing a history museum in an historic building owned by the Town in order to store and display historical artifacts; and 3) leading the Town’s participation in the country’s 250th anniversary celebration, in partnership with RI250 and US250. Soon after its creation, the Commission took over the role of preserving and sharing our history and heritage through our historic cemeteries.
The Commission shall consist of no more than seven (7) regular members plus two (2) alternate members appointed by the Town Council. The Commission is currently made up of:
