# We Will Die — Privacy Policy

We Will Die is a Memento Mori app. It shows how much of an imagined lifetime you have lived, sends reminders you configure, and lets you write private reflections. It was built to keep your data on your device. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app stores, what leaves your phone, and what never does.
## 1. The short version
- **No account.** You never sign up, and we never ask for your name, email, or phone number.
- **Your data stays on your device.** Your birth date, imagined lifespan, reflections, One Thing entries, life moments, "Before I Die" intentions, and settings are stored only on your phone.
- **We run no server** that receives your personal data. We have no analytics service, no advertising, and no tracking.
- **The only third party is the purchase processor** (RevenueCat, with Apple or Google), and it only handles purchase receipts under an anonymous identifier.
- **You can export or delete everything** from inside the app at any time.
## 2. What the app stores on your device

Nothing in this table is sent to us. We cannot see any of it.
**Widgets.** iOS and Android widgets read your birth date, imagined lifespan, today's reminder line, and purchase status from a container on your device that is shared between the app and its widgets. This is how the widget can show your number without opening the app. The container never leaves your device.
## 3. What leaves your device, and to whom
**Purchases (Apple App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat).**
If you buy We Will Die Forever or the yearly plan, the purchase is made through Apple or Google. We never see your payment details. To recognise your purchase across reinstalls and platforms, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. RevenueCat receives:
- the purchase receipt or token issued by Apple or Google,
- a random, anonymous app-user identifier generated on your device (not your name, email, or Apple/Google ID),
- basic device information needed to process purchases (platform, app version, country of the store).
RevenueCat's own privacy policy is at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy. We do not link the anonymous identifier to you, and we do not use it for tracking or advertising.
**Nothing else.** The app makes no other network requests with your data. Reminder text is bundled inside the app. The "Find help where you are" link in the support screen opens a public website in your browser when you tap it, and nothing is sent until you do.
**App Store privacy label.** On the App Store the app declares "Purchases: Purchase history, not linked to your identity, not used for tracking." Every other data category is "Not collected."
## 4. What we never do
- We never ask for or store your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, photos, health data, or advertising identifier.
- We do not use analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services that upload your data, advertising networks, or social-media pixels.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with anyone.
- We do not use your reflections or any other text for anything except showing them back to you. They are never read by a person or a machine outside your device.
- We do not make medical or actuarial predictions. The lifespan in the app is a number you choose, and every figure derived from it is illustrative.
## 5. Notifications
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are created by the app on your phone and do not pass through any server. You can change the tone, frequency, time window, and topics, or turn them off, under You › Reminders, or in your device's notification settings. If you ever pause reminders from the support screen, that choice is also stored only on your device.
## 6. Safety features
If text you write in the app suggests you may be in crisis, the app can show a support screen with helpline information and offer to pause mortality reminders. This check runs entirely on your device by matching phrases against a list bundled in the app. The text you wrote is never transmitted, and the app records only that the support screen was shown, not what you wrote.
## 7. Your controls
Under **You › Privacy & data** you can:
- **Export** everything the app stores about you as a JSON file, which you can save or share as you wish.
- **Delete everything.** This removes all app data from your device. Deleting data in the app does not cancel a subscription; manage subscriptions through Apple or Google.
Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device, except purchase records held by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat, which are needed so you can restore a purchase later.
## 8. Data retention
Because your data lives only on your device, it is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Purchase records are retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for as long as they need to honour the purchase and meet their legal obligations.
## 9. Children
We Will Die is rated 12+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age. If you believe a child under 13 has made a purchase, contact Apple or Google support to request a refund.
## 10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU or UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not hold your personal data, you can exercise these rights directly in the app (export and delete). For purchase data held by RevenueCat, Apple, or Google, you can contact them directly, or write to us and we will help you route the request.
## 11. Security
Your data is protected by your device's own security: its passcode, biometric lock, and encryption. We recommend keeping these enabled. Because we hold no copy of your data, a breach of our systems cannot expose it.
## 12. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the effective date, and we will describe the change in the app's release notes. Material changes (for example, adding sync or analytics) will be announced in the app before they take effect.
