Westwood MUSE

Why Become a MUSE Member?

We are MUSE

MUSE is a music-based community service and outreach club at Westwood High School.

OUR MISSION: To provide high school musicians opportunities to perform for the community, To provide the Austin community with free, high-quality music, and To spread the love of music through performance and connection.

MUSE members are able to sign up to play at MUSE events that happen at least twice a month. MUSE performances take place in local hospitals, senior homes, and schools.

Performance Experience

Every MUSE performance is an opportunity for you to practice playing in front of an audience in a stress-free, fun environment. Play your Region, Solo & Ensemble, recital, or competition piece in front of a live audience before taking it in front of judges.

Serve the Community

Almost all MUSE events take place at a retirement home, hospital, or elementary school. With each performance, MUSE members bring joy to the community and foster a love of music among members of the Austin community.

Volunteer Hours

We offer validation for volunteer hours. Ask any MUSE officer to sign your service log, or list our email for NHS points on Innerview. Please keep in mind that we only sign AFTER you have completed a performance/event. We will not sign off on hours if you've signed up for an event, but have not played at it yet.

Freedom in Music Choice

MUSE members have the freedom to choose what they play at MUSE events. From classical music, to modern pop arrangements, to student-composed pieces, MUSE members are able to play and perform music that they wouldn't be able to otherwise in a traditional orchestral setting.

All virtual this year!

Find Your People

Meet new people who share your passion for music and love for service. Connect with your friends by teaming up to play as an ensemble at a performance. Have fun hanging out with fellow musicians at MUSE events and performances.

Uncertain Times - What will Muse look like in 2022?

As we face unknown times amid a global pandemic, please keep in mind that everyone's safety is our current primary concern! That means that while we will try our best to provide as many fun performance opportunities as possible, there are some limits to where we can perform.

While we have traditionally gone to several nursing homes, many have become closed to the public due to COVID concerns. As COVID trends change, we will continue to adapt and provide performance opportunities that give back to our community.

Stay strong,
