Openings for 2025 - 2026 school year noted below!
Art Adventure - Westview participates in the Art Adventure program through the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA). The PTO lead for this program connects with MIA to secure the curriculum and recruits / coordinates volunteers to be “Picture People” who go into classrooms in March to share art with students.
Box Tops - Westview participates in the Box Tops for Education to raise money for the school. The PTO lead for the program encourages families to sign up for the program during PTO events and through other school communication. If you’re interested in signing up - follow this link! Bulldog Bingo - At the end of the first trimester, the school principal hosts a BINGO game with numbers announced via video in the classrooms. When a student gets a BINGO, they BARK down the hall to get a prize from prize tables, which are sponsored by the PTO. This is a fun way to celebrate the end of the trimester and all the learning the students have done!
Bulldog Bulletin - A PTO volunteer compiles news from staff, principal and other sectors of the school to put together a monthly newsletter. This goes home in Friday Folders and is also available on the school website.
Dine and Donate - The PTO coordinates with restaurants who host “dine-and-donate” nights. Families are encouraged to participate, eat at the designated restaurant, and a percentage of their meal purchase goes back to Westview as a donation. There is generally one event per month year-round.
First Grade Music Author Day - We celebrate with the entire first grade during this spring program. A lead from the PTO helps by purchasing treats and decorations for the event. Families are welcomed back to the first grade classrooms after the performance to see the work the students have completed.
Fun Run - On the last day of the school year, the kids celebrate by taking a run around the school. They end with a popsicle, music and joining their class/families for lunch.
Kindergarten Connect Program (OPEN POSITION)- Westview PTO started this program as a way to welcome and assist new Kindergarten families to Westview. We know as new families might have lots of questions, we thought a friendly face would be helpful as they start out at the school. Parents can sign up in the summer/early fall to be paired up with an existing Westview parent who can help answer any questions, etc.
Mega Yard Sale Fundraiser - At the very beginning of the year, during the days the school has assessments for students, the PTO puts on a garage sale fundraiser. Volunteers gather donations from the school community days before the event. The actual sales is donation-based, so Westview families pay what they can and any funds raised go back to the school.
Panera Bread - Westview participates in the Panera, Day-End Dough-Nation Program. This program allows parent volunteers to pick up end of day leftovers from the local Panera store. It’s brought to the school and staff divides it out as items for children to take home.
Parent Representatives - Two parent representatives from Westview attend monthly meetings with the district superintendent. These parents represent Westview during discussions and also report back to PTO meetings with relevant information.
Photography - The lead for this program acts as the the “official” photographer for PTO events and uploads photos into a shared drive to be used for PTO marketing
Playground - Westview will be getting a new playground in the summer of 2026! A PTO volunteer will serve as our parent representative to the district in regards to the new playground. This person may also facilitate purchasing playground equipment such as soccer nets and balls as requested by the school.
Playground Play Dates - The PTO lead for this program coordinates grade level playground playdates and creates flyers and social media posts to spread the word.
PTO Welcome Tables (OPEN POSITION) - A PTO informational table is set up during appropriate school events (Kindergarten night, assessment days, parent/teacher conferences). The PTO lead for this activity recruits volunteers to sit at the table welcoming families and answering questions about the PTO. During parent/teacher conferences, may also have a scavenger hunt for kids to follow and collect a prize for finishing.
Scholastic Book Fair - A PTO representative organizes the Fall and Spring Book Fairs during parent-teacher conferences. This person is the contact person with Scholastic and sets up fair dates, communicates with Scholastic, and submits the financial form at the end. They also recruit volunteers to help set up, clean up, and run the book fair.
School Beautification (OPEN POSITION)- A PTO volunteer works with school staff to help weed and plant flowers in the garden boxes, spread mulch, and keep the Science Court in good shape. This person is primarily helping to purchase needed materials and recruiting volunteers.
Social Media - This lead is the contact point for all PTO leads to post information on social media.
Spring Carnival - A PTO committee lead oversees all aspects of the annual Spring Carnival, the PTO’s largest event! The role of Carnival Lead is best suited for someone who has been a part of the Spring Carnival committee for at least a year. Examples of other roles within this committee include: Food, Volunteers, Tickets, and Raffle.
Staff Appreciation - A PTO lead organizes monthly staff appreciation events. This person can recruit volunteers to take a month. There are some PTO funds that can be used for this! They also organize the annual Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
Staff Giving Tree / Show Some Love - During the Fall and Spring conferences, the PTO creates a display with requests from teachers/staff for their classrooms/spaces (such as STEM activities, fun markers, books, or alternative seating options!). The lead for this program collects the requests, puts together a fun display for families to select a request from during conferences, and takes pictures of any left over requests to post on social media.
Staff Potluck - The PTO organizes parents to donate food or money to purchase food for a staff potluck during parent/teacher conferences in the Fall and Spring. They also help set up and clean up for each meal.
Student Directory (OPEN POSITION)- Each year the PTO creates a sign up for the student directory, helps spread the word to families that would like to be a part of the directory, compiles the results by grade level, and helps to send them out to families.
Read-a-Thon - The PTO's largest fundraiser of the year! A PTO committee coordinates and oversees all aspects of the spring Read-a-thon, include setting up a payment/tracking system, creating informational flyers and social media posts, purchasing prizes, distributing prizes, communicating with staff/teachers, etc.
World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser (OPEN POSITION) - Our new fundriaser for the 25 - 26 school year. This will begin in the end of September. The PTO lead for this would coordinate volunteers for distributing boxes of chocolate at school, collecting money, and working with the company on other tasks. The fundraiser runs for approximately 19 days.
WV Scholarship - Each year the PTO offers a scholarship to a High School senior who attended Westview in the past. The PTO lead for this program helps with updating the application deadlines and facilitates distributing the scholarship to the winner
Yearbook - A PTO representative serves as a liaison between the teachers/staff that organize the yearbook and the PTO.
