AVID is…

Advancement via Individual Determination,

an accelerated academic & college preparatory program designed to prepare students with academic potential for success in rigorous courses. The goal of AVID is to support students in being successful in challenging courses that lead to enrollment and success in future careers and/or college.

AVID Objectives:

• To provide students with instruction in skills important to academic success;

• To provide support for success in college preparatory coursework;

• To motivate students to seek a college education;

• To increase participants’ level of career awareness; 

• To prepare students for eligibility for careers, including four-year colleges and universities.

Who May Participate?

• Students who have the potential and desire to work hard in challenging courses and have:

• have between a 2.0 and 3.5+ grade point average;

• have appropriate classroom and school behavior;

• have a good attendance record;

• have good work habits;

• are willing to commit themselves to academic homework for core classes each night; 

• are willing to enroll in a rigorous college-preparatory sequence of courses(honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment classes with the knowledge that you will get support to help you be
