The Western Balkans Center (WBC) portal was established to provide an overview of the developments in the Western Balkans, flag for potential escalation, and help audience get a better understanding on the current developments. Recognizing the critical role the Western Balkans plays in the global geopolitical landscape, the Western Balkans Center aims to update briefs and analysis for each country, distribute information on latest developments, and provide other up-to-date information on this region.

The six countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia – that comprise the Western Balkans represent a territory and society that has a complex history, culture, and aspirations. Their path towards the European Union, while promising, faces the countervailing influence of regional players like Russia, and recently increased interest from China as well. Turkey has also projected its influence, especially in countries with Muslim population. Greece, with its historical ties and EU membership, stands poised to have critical contribution. Hungary is involved as well, although its values are heavily criticized within the EU. Bulgaria is restless in projecting its own interests in the region. And the other EU country, Croatia, maintains close focus and sometimes involvement in the region, more specifically in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
