This service provides an alternative for families for whom temple membership or attendance during regular religious school hours is not possible.
Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a coming of age religiously in the eyes of a Jewish congregation. We are a literate people so we enter this age of maturity and responsibility for the commandments by leading the Prayer service, and chanting from our ancient texts, the Torah (The five books of Moses) and Haftarah (Prophets) in a congregation comprised of our family and friends.
I have trained and officiated at over 800 ceremonies, and will tutor your child/children to chant their prayers and portion at a venue of your choice, from a unique prayer book created especially for the ceremony.
I also work with Rabbis in Israel and train students for ceremonies in Israel either at the Western Wall, Masada or a sacred place of your choice. Video lessons on Skype or Facetime are available too for students who live further away.
I work with a tutors in New York Tri-State area for students located in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut, keeping in close contact with tutor and family, taking over for the final rehearsals before the ceremony.
Whatever your needs I can help create a service that works for your family. Interfaith - my specialty.
A keyboardist or guitarist accompany me at the service to enhance the beauty of the service. A Torah and an Ark are available too.
Training: I can work with students with little or no knowledge of Hebrew, teaching them to read and decode Hebrew, supplying background Judaic knowledge about our history, holidays and stories, interlaced with music, cooking and art projects. I have trained students over a period of 4 years leading up to becoming a bar/bat mitzvah providing a full curriculum, either one-on-one or in small groups, in person or long distance.
I have also trained students in less time, while still providing a thorough education. I do recommend a minimum of 2 years for the preparation.
At all times I am patient and kind, responsive to students' needs and empathetic, setting up excellent relationships with my students and their families.
