Course Notes

All courses share the same start/finish and have a ~2.4km walk to start from the main parking area with 75m of climb (~15min light jog or ~25min brisk walk). The walk from the oversized vehicle lot is along the same route totaling ~1.4km and 35m of climb. Along the walk to start, runners will also encounter an urban assault military training course which is mapped as out of bounds, so please adhere strictly to the mapped route to start. Walkers may also encounter runners on their courses, so please yield to those nearby.

Yellow course runners will experience the second half of their course in the woods, jumping between indistinct trails. While still part of the advanced course area, the entirety of this section will thus have blue streamers to indicate proper direction of travel. Long pants are strongly advised!

Concertina (razor) wire or barbed wire may be found all over the area, but any areas encountered during course planning and setting are flagged with red streamers. Mapped indistinct trails are quite challenging to navigate on, and advanced runners may notice many more unmapped indistinct trails resulting from military training in the area. Most significant underbrush is mapped as slow running with good visibility, but many patches of this underbrush exist unmapped in white forest areas, so it’s advised you don’t rely on vegetation as a means of navigation. Regardless of the weather, streams and marshes tend to fill beyond their mapped boundaries. Many reentrants, trails, and low-lying areas (even some clearings) may also replicate unmapped seasonal streams and marshes.

Lastly, the firebreaks (gravel roads mapped as vehicle tracks) in the area have been subjected to months of heavy rain and floods and are also regularly used by service vehicles, which have decimated the road conditions throughout the map. Thus, there are many open areas along the track in addition to random piles of dirt/gravel. Some of these have been added to the map as open land or knolls, but most have not. Blue/Red runners may also discover a newly constructed guardrail that is mapped as a fence.

All courses will have at least one water point located at a control throughout their course in addition to available water at the start & finish areas. Red/Blue have a mapped mandatory crossing point across a bridge, but all courses use the same (and only) bridge across the river. Blue runners will also experience a map flip midway through the course where part 2 contains an unadvised possible route that goes through the start area. If you elect to run this route, please be mindful of the start crew and other runners along the trail. Course lengths and map details are listed below:

Restrooms:

Portable restrooms will be located across the road from the Finish/Registration area. Restrooms will not be available elsewhere and if you see them located anywhere else, they are not authorized for public use.
