45th Annual West Point NRE
West Point, NY | 12-13 April 2025
West Point, NY | 12-13 April 2025
Whether it's your first time or you've been with us since the start, welcome to the 45th Annual West Point NRE! The United States Military Academy Orienteering Club is excited to host a 2-Day NRE, with Day 1 courses at Stilwell Lake and Day 2 courses at Victor Constant Ski Area. Day 1 consists of a shortened middle followed by a three-person forest relay. Day 2 is a middle course followed by awards. All three courses are located within the West Point Military Training Areas, where cadets practice their military skills over the summer. This NRE offers competitors limited access to some the oldest terrain in the New York State.
West Point is situated along the Hudson River Valley, carved by glaciers from the last Ice Age, who have left the terrain littered with rock features like erratics and exposed rock faces. The sharp terrain features are sure to provide a physical challenge to any competitor. April is one of the best times to visit the area as the warm weather provides the ideal conditions for Orienteering. We look forward to seeing you all out there!

Military Training:
On Day 1, cadets will be performing military training to the north of the event. Orienteers may hear yelling, gunfire, or explosions during the middle and forest relay. They may also see smoke and uniformed personnel with weapons or other equipment. Please know this training is scheduled and all gunfire/explosions are using blanks and pose no danger to competitors. If any orienteer sees uniformed personnel while on a course, please ignore them. Thank you!
Cycling Competition:
On Day 2, there will be a cycling competition with their route running along 293. Those driving to the meet site need to be prepared to stop for cyclists crossing the road and to pass cyclists safely IAW NY law. Thank you!

Due to road restrictions and conditions on Stilwell Lake Trail, the parking plan for Day 1 will run accordingly:
All orienteers will follow all instructions from parking guides and signs
Traffic In-Flow/Arrival to Event:
As orienteers turn into Stilwell, they will drive for about 1200 m until they come across a parking guide.
The parking guide will call up another guide to ensure no other cars are flowing the other way.
After receiving an all clear, the parking guide will let cars pass through.
Orienteers will continue driving until they find another guide who will park their vehicle.
Parking will start from the back of Stilwell to the front.
Traffic Out-Flow/Departing Event:
Once orienteers are done with their course, they will be allowed to leave until the relay between 1400 and 1700.
Orienteers who wish to depart will drive out until they come across a parking guide.
This parking guide will call another guide to ensure the road is clear for vehicles.
Once the parking guide receives the clear, vehicles will be allowed to pass through.
Reminder: During the relay, NO vehicles will be allowed to leave.
If you are racing both the Forest Middle and the Relay, it is advised that you stay at the event center. In the event of an emergency, we will facilitate leaving the event arena.
