Welcome to my portfolio for my English 101 class for the Arizona State University spring 2022 semester. In this portfolio you will find a compilation of my biggest work done for the semester. The aforementioned work will consist of three major formal assignments: the writer's inventory, the literacy narrative, and the research journal and reflection. This compilation will hopefully serve to demonstrate my learning journey for this class. As you scroll through the various pages of the portfolio, be sure to pay special attention to the dear reader letters as they guide one to the goal of the assignment and then paper. Although the research journal does not have a dear reader letter as it was not assigned to us. Thank you and enjoy!
Major
Electrical Engineering
My name is Wesley Bergman and I attend the Tempe campus in person, half online and half in person. My major is electrical engineering, and I am currently a freshman transfer. I am originally from Glendale, Arizona and currently live off campus which subsequently classifies me as a commuter. I love to play sports especially soccer, hunt, fish, and love the outdoors. In addition to going to school here I work part time at the Mercedes Benz dealership in Scottsdale. Knowing this, in the future I hope to be still working on cars except with tesla or even Rivian.
In the future I see my writing being more research based due to the fact that engineering is a very logistical career which in turn will require me to do detailed reports on my findings. Findings that will involve me performing research to develop a proper solution that satisfies the customers problem. I have a long way to go until I reach this point in my career and seeing as this is my first college English class, this will serve as a steppingstone to allow me to be able to write professionally. I also hope this education in English will help me with the possibility of having an internship in college.
Achieve a better understanding of the style that I employ when I write. As is demonstrated by the essay above, my writing style is concrete due to the years of English classes in high school, but I don’t know what style is unique to me outside of being formulaic.
Actively try to incorporate a little of who I am and my experiences to make my writing style more unique. In order to escape the formulaic writing style, I need to make my writing more personal to give the reader a little insight to understand what I mean better.
Increase my range of vocabulary so I can actively reflect my educational position. Although it will be hard to do this as an engineer responding to prompts, I understand that my word bank has not evolved much since freshman year of high school and that needs to change.
