  • Excellent event and made a great profit

  • The boys had a great time. Thank you to the chair and Maria for the baskets

  • Scheduled for 5/10; rain date 5/31

  • Will be held at North from 7-9 pm. All Sachem Schools will participate.

  • Schools will be kept together this year.

  • All funds raised will go to PTA Council which distributes scholarships for Sachem students.

  • This will impact the Chinese Auction also scheduled for 5/31. More info to follow.

  • Letters and Tax Exempt forms are available

  • Always looking for volunteers and donation

  • Each class parent must provide a snack. K-2 must provide water and 3-5 to provide soft drink.

  • A master spreadsheet will be maintained like last year to keep track of business contacted and donations received.

Wenonah Fun and Fitness 5K –Heather Morreale

  • Scheduled for June 8th - 4th year for the event

  • 8:30 am – Kids Fun Run

  • 9:00 am 5k run

  • More info to follow in April/May

  • Always looking for committee members and sponsors

Ms. DiPaola Remarks

Smart School Initiative was Approved

  • Several improvements we will see include a double vestibule to improve security and wireless internet

  • Could be done over Spring Break or over the summer.

Based on school budget approval the elementary school day will change.

  • School hours for next year will start earlier at 8:45. Dismissal will remain the same.

  • This will allow for an added lunch period. Teachers will no longer need to supervisor lunch. Outside aides will be hired to support.

Community Night – Back to the Future

  • Will focus on the 50 year anniversary of Wenonah,

  • Flyer to be sent home with details

Budget Vote 5/21

  • Proposed budget is under the tax cap

  • Budget includes a full size bus with a lift which would accommodate all children on field trips and outside activities budget would also provide additional money to Wenonah to offer more clubs at the elementary level

Recap Past Events:

Father Daughter Dance

  • Huge success, thank you to all the volunteers

Game Show Family Fun Night

  • Overwhelming positive feedback.

  • A BIG thank you to Mrs. Berger who was instrumental in the event coordination

Ongoing Department of Environmental Control

  • Organized by Michelle Pitman

  • Grades 1-5 will all get to enjoy an event sponsored by the DEC at no cost.

  • 2nd grade enjoyed a reptile experience

Book Fair

  • All children who attended enjoyed shopping and were well behaved

Box Tops – continues, but first round winners Mrs. DeGregory and Mrs. Berger

  • Final deadline is 6/1

Upcoming Events:

PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) – Kristin Gelzinis

  • Event kick off is 3/8 – The Kingdom of Wenonah

  • Flyer sent home on March 8th outline some of the fun events

Cultural Arts

  • Due to the efforts and money raised from the PTA Wenonah Cultural Arts funds are able to host additional events for the kids.

  • Some possible upcoming events include a Human Game Board, Jump for Jill and a STEAM Music Show

Mother / Daughter Painting – Nurya Brady and Lauren Aichinger

  • This year Wenonah is trying a new type of event that many feel will allow for more interaction between the kids and adults

  • The event is open to any special person to the girls, not limited to mother’s only

  • The new committee chairs have worked tirelessly to host a very special events for the girls

Father / Son Bowling - Jenine Kenney

  • This year the entire bowling alley will be for Wenonah

  • More participation is encouraged to fill the entire bowling alley

Ms. DiPaola Remarks

  • Lockout that occurred went smoothly.

  • No one is allowed n or out of the building until law enforcement deems it safe. Kids do not hide; business as usual inside the school

  • Smart School Initiative was Approved

  • State tests are not used to evaluate teacher’s performance. You can choose to opt out but there is no connection to test results and teacher performance evaluations.

  • The students were not able to attend the rescheduled date.

  • The Shoe Box for Soldiers event was a huge success.

  • Students anticipated collecting 30 shoe boxes and were able to donate 93 boxes!

  • More upcoming projects throughout the year.

All Leadership Projects must be presented and approved by Ms. DiPaola. If not part of the Leadership Club students can join an Action Team to assist on a project.

Motion to Accept Prior Meeting Minutes (May 10, 2018)

Presentation of and Motion to Accept Treasurer’s Report (Jenine Kenny)

  • A new process will be implemented this year to better track and account all money in and out. Forms will be required whenever money is requested for an event as well as when money is turned in for an event.

  • A new form was also created for reimbursement requests for expenses. Receipts will also be required.

  • All forms are available on the PTA webpage for download.

Read to Feed (Ms. Raleigh)

  • Event will run for 3 weeks starting October 29th

  • A flyer will be sent home detailing the event

  • It is recommended that children read 75 minutes a week.

  • They should return the form along with a food donation that is outlined in the flyer. For every submittal the children get a feather that will be on display in the school.

  • The food collected goes to support the baskets created at North HS for families within our community that are in need.

  • The week a Thanksgiving an additional flyer will be sent home perishable items needed to complete the baskets.

Bullying Prevention Month (Ms. Raleigh and Ms. DiPaola)

  • October is Bulling Prevention Month. The PTA sponsored bracelets that were given to all children.

  • The children are encouraged to wear Blue every Monday in October.

  • A special presentation for parents will be held on October 18th at 7 pm. The presentation will be given by the YMCA as well as a representative from law enforcement.

  • Mrs. DiPaola has been a guest reader in every class to reinforce the message


Picture Day (Kathy Seitz)

  • The PTA selected a new company this year, Sand Castle. After a side-by-side comparison the conclusion was that Sand Castle offered better products as well as incentives like sibling discount.

  • Feedback from the volunteers was that the day ran very smooth and organized.


Trick or Trunk (Michelle Nodell)

  • Flyers will be sent home with details. Event is scheduled for 10/24 6-7:30. The rain date will be 10/30. Setup begins at 5:30.

  • Looking for volunteers to decorate cars as well as provide bags of candy.

  • Similar to last year there will be an allergy friendly section as well as traditional candy.

  • There will be a collection at the entrance for canned goods and all donations are appreciated.


Membership (Erika Calabrese and Jessica Hill)

  • Wenonah has approximately 480 students and our membership is currently at 150.

  • The PTA is asking everyone to reach out and encourage membership and participation.


MemberHub to volunteer throughout the year (flyer) (Jessica Hill)

  • MemberHub is a free site to the PTA that is similar to SignUp Genius.

  • The PTA will be utilizing this site to create sign-ups. We will also use the site to update the calendar and events.

Barnes and Noble Night / CPK Fundraiser

  • The PTA is looking for anyone to assist with the event preparation.

  • Typically California Pizza Kitchen has joined with Wenonah to donate back a portion of the proceeds of any family that eats there on the night of the event.

  • The PTA is looking for someone to reach out to other local restaurants to see if they would participate.


Box Tops

  • Cari Pallazolla is running the program again.

  • A flyer will be sent home shortly with details.

  • Last year the class with the most box tops got a pizza and ice cream party.

  • The PTA is looking to reward the kids three times throughout the year.


Kid Stuff Books (Andrea Muchow)

  • A book was left on every student’s desk DURING Curriculum Night. Out of 400+ books only 50 were purchased.

5th Grade Committee Updates (Christina Amato)

  • 1st Wingo 10/12

  • Mixed Bag Sale currently underway till 10/19

  • School Store Opened every Friday during lunch

  • Halloween Dance coming up on 10/26

  • Pumpkin Cut-out on sale during lunch the week of Halloween.

  • One winner will be chosen from all who purchased.

  • 5th Grade play will be Aladdin.

Laptop Carts

  • The school now has laptop carts – there is one cart for every grade level with 30 laptops.

  • All laptops are loaded with grade level programs

  • The teachers and staff have undergone training

  • The feedback from students is that they really enjoy it.


Board of Education Meeting Summary

  • Wenonah now has a full time security guard.

  • All new practices with ID are for the safety of our students

  • State test scores are only available on the Parent Portal

  • Overall the school district is in a good place financially and has recovered from the struggles of a few years ago.


Class Parent Selection

  • All class parents and assistants were selected at the meeting.

  • The list was posted to the PTA website.

  • All teachers were notified in their mailboxes 10/12

  • Letters will go home to all class parents and assistants the week of October 15th
