Multiscale Computational Modeling
An Essential Path to Sustainable and Resilient Transportation Infrastructures
To deal with challenges such as intense extreme events and increasing usage of energy, it is necessary to build computational frameworks and simulation models for the design and development of sustainable and resilience infrastructures. Sun's research integrates different techniques of engineering mechanics, computational modeling, optimization algorithms, data analytics, and green technology, to investigate civil infrastructures. The ultimate goals are to conduct the following research aspects: resilience assessment at system-level, mechanical performances and material characteristics of civil engineering materials, and structural performances at component-level. These techniques can support the design, maintenance, and restoration of sustainable and resilient civil infrastructures.
