Mapping Popular Travel Destinations with Flickr Data

In this project, I researched existing methodology on measuring travel visitation rates, and used the City of San Francisco and Boston as testing grounds to experiment with visualizing the intensity of tourists based on number of photos uploaded to Flickr, the open source image community. The InVEST toolkit developed by Stanford Woods was used concurrently with ArcGIS in the experiments.

A Closer Look. You can notice the brightest pixels located around downtown Boston (and particularly Downtown Crossing, the Boston Commons), Newbury Street and Fenway Park.

Here's how it looks in San Francisco. Data collected from 2010 - 2017. The Ferry Building, Market Street, Civic Center, Little Italy, Fisherman's Wharf and Oracle Park all showed up bright.
