My Mission at Wendell Magnet Middle School is to cultivate a community where learning is optimal and rich with the exploration of various topics and cultures through meaningful curricula. Within the choral department, we strive for excellence in musicianship while assisting students in their growth as individuals during their participation in choir.
6th graders will participate in an Exploratory Music class. This will be structured very similar to a regular Chorus class, but with an emphasis on exploring music in different ways. This class is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge in order to succeed in subsequent Chorus classes.
7th graders will participate in a regular Chorus class. In the 7th grade year, students will review much of the fundamental knowledge they learned while in Exploratory Music before diving into learning music and preparing for performances.
8th graders will participate in an intermediate Chorus class. Students in 8th grade who have taken Chorus both years prior will be expected to be leaders within their ensemble, setting the standard of excellence for their peers. This class will be structured to help prepare students to participate in Chorus while in High School.
New this year, we have added a Magnet Composition and Songwriting Course in which students can explore various genres of music and learn how to compose their own songs. We explore everything from classical music to jazz and participate in lots of composition projects and workshops. This course is currently only offered for 7th grade students.
