Oh, my! 2 months have passed by.....
Anyway, better late than never: the game uses an OpenGL renderer, so its behaviour is a little different from the one of other games. I tried it with this configuration (see exported file) and it seems to work pretty well, apart from attempt to resize its windows promptly neutralized by DxWnd.
Pay attention to one thing when you'll have to update the path because it seems that game.exe in the CD version is located in the Data subfolder, while in Steam maybe not.
Another thing I noticed in the CD version with DxWnd is that you may get a black screen (right after or before a movie, for instance): in that case, a enter keypress should unblock the game.
Let me know if you see more specific problems.
I can gift you a steam copy of Cossacks II: Battle for Europe for tests (also as a compensation for that 2.5 euros dvd :D) but you can get it easilly the other ways as well. There are some differences in steam version (mostly about modern windows compatibility), but basic stuff is the same (so is the issue).

GOG, CD, Steam - all versions behave similiar. I play the steam one. Steam version have better windows 10 compatibility. I'm not sure if it affects anything that dxwnd works with, but the behaviour is the same anyways.
Just installed cossacks ew and changed video file name as suggested and it worked the problem i have now is the graphics have a yellow,red and blue dotty shaddow where there shud b a solid black shaddow, game is playable but its just very annoying!!! pls help im running windows 7 btw be457b7860
