City of Hobart Event
A message from Talia Sawers from the COH Bushcare office
Dear Convenors of Friends of Knocklofty, Waterworks Valley, Ridgeway and Friends of Wellington Park Bushcare,
I’m very excited to let you know about a Bushcare workshop we’re holding specifically for your four groups!
You may be aware that the City of Hobart is home to the threatened butterfly, the Chaostola Skipper (Antipodia chaostola subsp. leucophaea). So far there are confirmed observations of the Chaostola Skipper in Knocklofty Reserve, but we also know that one or both of its host plants (Gahnia radula and Gahnia microstachya) occur in Waterworks Reserve, Ridgeway Park and Wellington Park.
The best way for us to protect this species is to protect all known colonies and to locate any new colonies that might exist.
Join us as we are guided by ecologist Dr Phil Bell in learning more about this threatened species, how to find and identify the adult butterflies and the characteristic larval/pupal shelters, and what we can do to protect them.
Date: Sunday 5 December, 2021
Time: 9:30 – 11:30 am
Meet: Knocklofty Reserve car park
