In an attempt to keep our bee friends happy and hanging around, we plant wildflowers and honeysuckle. Bees also love the blossoms on Mesquite trees.
We're currently developing a "Forested Garden"—a multi-layered planting system designed to mimic a natural forest while providing edible and beneficial plants. This type of garden typically includes three distinct layers:
Trees: Such as fruit trees and nut trees.
Shrubs: Including berry-producing varieties and other low-growing understory plants.
Ground Cover: Plants that spread across the soil, like strawberries, clover, and aromatic herbs.
Ours will also include a raised garden area for our favorite vegetables and maybe even some flowers to dress it up.
All these plants will produce blossoms, attracting our bees, who will pollinate them while collecting nectar. In return, the bees will carry the nectar back to their hive, transforming it into honey.
The image below represents a similar layout we're trying to replicate. The trees have been ordered and are on their way.
