Why do art: Engaging in creative or artistic activities can bring time for reflection, escape, and mindfulness in our increasingly stressful lives. It can be an opportunity to learn and celebrate new skills, have fun, make friends, and challenge oneself. exploration of creative media can improve our resilience, and resourcefulness. it can increase our sense of self-esteem and achievement.
What is art: Art can describe anything involving a creative process. for example, our differentiated opportunities can explore identity ending in a group mural, use photos and collage to make a personal journal or develop acrylic skills to decorate a plant pot.
What happens in an art class: Participants will be encouraged to explore their own ideas following an introduction to the media available or make use of teacher’s suggestions and inspiration. there is no right or wrong, participants are invited to explore, make mistakes, be themselves and have fun. participants will be encouraged to exhibit their work in some form and share with their community.
Inclusive, trauma aware approach: Our art sessions are carefully tailored to the group which initially explore individual’s experiences, interests and concerns. a carefully considered programme will be planned to ensure that classes are accessible, inclusive and trauma informed. we are able to work with various suitable media and explore genres.
