Portuguese Food

Try Portuguese food, especially in the Algarve area you are visiting, you will find lots of fresh fish and seafood that are delicious! Also many typical dishes such as feijoadas and stews are highly appreciated by those who taste them. A Portuguese stew is one of the best stews in the world and is worth a try!

If you want to try one of the dishes mentioned above, then lunchtime is the best time to do it, as they are usually heavier dishes. Try a Portuguese Cozido and enjoy!

The Portuguese are well known for liking typical dishes and they know how to cook them very well, but one of the most popular dishes in this part of the Algarve is the seafood Cataplana!

So for dinner, give it a try!

As for regional specialities, Doces Finos (which translates to fine candies) are typical sweets of the Algarve and are very cute and fluffy, not to mention delicious. It is a sweet made with almond paste and sugar, known as marzipan, and can be filled with egg threads. They are molded into different animal or fruit shapes and can be decorated with chocolate or dyes.

It is very easy to find these sweets, which are very original and preserve for a long time, making them ideal for gifts. 

The Portuguese also enjoy eating a lot of fresh fish, simply grilled naturally, it is delicious and is also very appreciated by most visitors in our country.

And as a starter, you can find delicious clams à Bulhao Pato in most restaurants in this area! They are made with olive oil, garlic, wine and coriander and are always very fresh, as this region is the best place to pick them!

And what about our delicious Pastel de nata? One of the most eaten sweets in Portugal and are appreciated by all Portuguese people. You can find them in all the bakeries in the area.

Let's not forget the Portuguese wines. Enjoy wines from all the regions of Portugal, and try also the green wine (Vinho Verde)

Medronho, a Portuguese  Medronho brandy is a traditional brandy from the fruit of the Medronho tree, or Arbutus unedo. Medronho trees grow wild on the rocky soils in rural regions of the Alentejo and the Algarve. The fruit is mainly collected by local farmers, so good Medronho brandy is not easily found . When sweetened with honey it is called Brandymel. Boom! It is STRONG! and often an acquired taste.

Few are the people in Portugal who do not know the drink of the Algarve mountains, and still less are those who have never tasted it. According to experts, the harvesting of the arbutus is the most important part of the whole process of manufacturing the much loved brandy.
