Longneck Lagoon EEC is located in bushland alongside a freshwater lagoon.
As most of the learning occurs outdoors, there are risks. These are managed with thorough planning and mitigation strategies as outlined below.
Bushfire
Extreme Fire Danger Warning – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC may be cancelled
Catastrophic Fire Danger Warning – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC will be cancelled
Closure of Scheyville National Park – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC may be cancelled (in negotiation with NPWS Scheyville Office)
Cancelled excursions will be rescheduled in negotiation with the organising teacher.
Flood
Localised roads flooded – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC may be cancelled if arrival and departure routes are or may be impacted
Partial EEC site flooded – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC may be cancelled if program sites are impacted
Full EEC site flooded – Excursions to Longneck Lagoon EEC will be cancelled until flood damage is assessed and remediated
Cancelled excursions will be rescheduled in negotiation with the organising teacher.
Dangerous winds
High wind predictions – Conditions are monitored during the course of the excursion and program modifications are made as necessary

Extreme heat
High temperatures – Conditions are monitored during the course of the excursion and program modifications are made as necessary
