Our church history goes back to 1882 when a Congregational church was founded near what is now Pittsburg. This church purchased the old Camp Stoneman military chapel in 1962. The Pittsburg Community Church later merged with the First Presbyterian church in 1971 and became Community Presbyterian Church (CPC), which is both Presbyterian and UCC. In 2010, the First Congregational Church of Antioch (FCCA), also a UCC church, joined with us, and we called the combination East County Shared Ministry (ECSM). Although FCCA ended as a separate entity, our church remains a combination of Presbyterian and UCC. We emphasize being an open and welcoming church: whoever you are and wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here!
In following the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Community Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg manifests being part of the body of Christ in the world by:
Expressing God’s love as an open, inviting, and accepting community of faith;
Providing opportunities for worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth;
Working toward a more just society by sharing generously our time, talents and resources
with each other, our community, and the world.
A Matthew 25 church is a congregation that commits to actively engaging in the world by focusing on three core areas: building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism, and eradicating systemic poverty. This commitment is rooted in Jesus' teachings in Matthew 25:31-46, which emphasizes caring for the "least of these". Find out more at https://pcusa.org/matthew25
