Community Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg
Worship
1. Provide guidance and work with the Worship Team to design each Sunday morning worship service and the contents of other special worship services.
2. Lead worship with the assistance of the Worship Team on Sunday mornings and other occasions determined by the Worship Team with the approval of the Session.
3. Preach 2 or 3 Sundays per month, depending upon the determination of Worship Team and the approval of the Session.
4. When preaching, select topics and scripture passages that will address the needs of the congregation and help grow the attendees’ spiritual life and faith.
5. Allow others selected by the Worship Team and approved by Session to preach and to select their topic and corresponding scriptures or writings.
6. Administer the Sacrament of Holy Communion/Lord’s Supper on dates determined by the Session.
7. With the approval of the Session, perform weddings, funerals, memorial services, baptisms, and other special services; counseling persons involved in such situations.
Adult Education
1. Lead throughout the church year an adult study using a book or topic suggested by the Sacred Conversation Group.
Mission Interpretation
1. Encourage the congregation to be involved individually and corporately in service activities in the Pittsburg/East County area.
2. Receive reports from a person appointed by Session to attend the following Stoneman Village committees: Finance and Management, Project Services, and the Board meeting.
Church Administration
1. Encourage church volunteers and paid staff to contribute ideas and use their skills to maintain and improve the various activities within the church.
2. Assist the Session to utilize ‘best practices’ to ensure effective functioning of church programs.
3. Develop, with the approval of Session, means for assessing personnel, financial, and physical needs of the congregation.
4. Implement, supervise, and evaluate church programs with the approval of the Session.
5. With the cooperation of Clerk of Session, determine the agenda for and moderate Session meetings.
6. Moderate any called meetings of the congregation.
7. Participate in keeping church records of marriages, membership, births, baptisms, and deaths.
8. Interact with persons who lead organizations that lease space in church facilities.
Pastoral Care
1. Embody in his/her life and promote within the congregation an atmosphere of acceptance, openness, love, and inclusiveness which invites and encourages church attendees to build loving relationships with each other.
2. Encourage church attendees to grow in their Christian faith.
3. Visit members of the church family and others whose needs may be brought to the pastor’s attention.
4. Counsel persons who are considering church membership.
5. Facilitate the inclusion of new members.
6. Deal creatively with conflict in the congregation and seek to foster peace within the congregation.
7. Encourage and train church members to accept leadership roles in the congregation.
8. Embody an atmosphere of personal sharing of joys and sorrows.
9. Conduct counseling sessions and assist persons dealing with spiritual, personal, and moral issues.
10. Talk with people needing counsel in pre-marriage, bereavement, emotional, or occupational situations.
11. Be familiar with the counseling resources in the East County area and refer the people to one of those resources as needed.
Congregational Nurture
1. Work with the Care Team in its nurturing of the congregation.
2. Bless Care Team members who are doing Home Communion.
3. Write an article for the Monthly Newsletter.
Relationships with Governing Bodies
1. Be an active member of the San Francisco Presbytery.
2. Interpret significant decisions of the SF Presbytery and the General Assembly that impact our congregation and its ministry.
3. Attend important meetings of the Northern California Nevada Conference, United Church of Christ.
Professional Performance
1. Seek ways to grow in ministry through study, prayer, and the guidance of spiritual mentors.
2. Set realistic but challenging performance goals and evaluate progress towards those goals on a regular and systematic basis with the Personnel Committee.
3. Whenever necessary, meet with the Personnel Committee to discuss needs, concerns, and opportunities for improvements or growth.
4. Take vacations and study leaves as required by San Francisco Presbytery guidelines.
5. Submit expense reports and reimbursement requests to the Treasurer in the prescribed format and in a timely manner.
