Short bio
Víctor M. Gómez-Blanco is an Assistant Professor of Economic History at the University of Alcalá. He earned his PhD in Economic History from Carlos III University of Madrid in 2021. His doctoral dissertation received the María Teresa Pérez Picazo Prize for the best PhD thesis in economic history awarded by the Spanish Economic History Association for the 2020–2024 period. After completing his PhD, Víctor held postdoctoral and lectureship positions at the EFFORT ERC project (Carlos III–Juan March Institute and WZB Berlin Social Science Center), Tilburg University, the University of Valencia, and CUNEF University. His research focuses on financial history, inequality, and long-run economic development, and has been published in leading field journals such as Explorations in Economic History and The Economic History Review. Moreover, he has participated in five competitively funded research projects and currently is the principal investigator of The Price of Empire: State Capacity and Inequality in Castile, 1528–1591 project, funded by the Fundación Ramón Areces.
