Melina Barrio

Short bio

Melina Barrio Martínez is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Alcalá, where she joined the Department of Economics in 2011. She earned her PhD in Economics, with a European Mention, from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2010. Her doctoral dissertation, focused on the assessment and management of Galician ecosystems, received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

Her research focuses on environmental economics, particularly economic valuation, stated preference methods, and social preferences for environmental policies. She has published in leading international journals such as Ecological Economics, World Development, Marine Policy, and Forest Systems. She has participated in over ten competitively funded research projects and has completed research stays at the University of Liverpool and Colorado State University.

In addition to her research, she has extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She currently serves as Quality Coordinator for the Master's Degree in Applied Economic Analysis at the University of Alcalá and has previously held several academic leadership positions, including Deputy Head and Secretary of the Department of Economics.
