Short bio
Carmelo García-Pérez is Professor of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business at the Universidad de Alcalá, where he teaches courses in Economic Statistics and Welfare Economics across undergraduate programmes in Economics, Business Administration and Tourism. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Universidad de Alcalá. His research focuses on Welfare Economics, with particular emphasis on inequality, poverty, labour precariousness, homelessness and the evaluation of public policy impacts. He has published extensively in high-impact academic journals as well as books and book chapters. He has led and participated in competitive research projects funded by regional governments and the European Commission, and has been a visiting researcher at the University of Southampton, the Budapest School of Commerce and expert groups at the OECD. He was a member of the OECD’s NAEC (New Approaches to Economic Challenges) expert group and served as Spain’s main delegate to the NAEC process between 2012 and 2014. He has held senior positions in economic policy analysis at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and is currently Vice-Rector of the Universidad de Alcalá and a member of its Research Committee. He is also a member of IARIW and ECINEQ.
