For this study, I opted to conduct interviews to pair with the analysis of the data gathered in various readings. I reached out to members of historical black fraternities and sororities of which the names of the organizations and the participants were kept private. My relationships with these members are tightly knit, which was important in order to obtain honest answers. I chose to do interviews because while research has been done and data already exist on this topic, the world of black Greek culture is constantly changing and interviews will yield the most current thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Also, my strong relationship with the interviewees is significantly different than the relationships of the researcher and participants in previously conducted studies. My results are more likely to be honest and raw in comparison to a survey or questionnaire given by someone not as close to the interviewees or not even in the BGLO community.
