Your brand is your identity. Your brand will speak for you before you ever say a word to prospective new couples. Having a strong, cohesive brand image will give clients the impression of quality and professionalism. If you show couples that you take care in your own image, it will give them the sense that you will have that same level of care in preserving their memories.
There are a handful of digital, physical, and mental elements that make up your brand as a photographer. Your website/portfolio, your social media accounts, business cards, the way you present yourself, and finally the way people perceive you.
Choosing a Name
The way I see it, there are two avenues you can pursue when naming your business. The first, and most common, is to name the business after yourself. Many people will use their first and last name and tack on a relevant keyword such as, FIRST LAST + Photography. I’ve also seen modifications on this theme by using parts of names or initials. The second method is to create a name that is agnostic of the photographer’s name. I think there is merit to both. Most importantly, whatever method you choose, it should be short, easy to remember and you should plan according to name availability. When you’re going through naming options you should do some quick googling to see if anyone else is operating under that name and search a website domain service to find an appropriate URL to go along with you business name. You may have to try several times to get a combo that satisfies all of those elements.
