A Look Inside Google Sites
Admittedly, Google Sites doesn't have all the "bells-and-whistles" that you may find in other web building platforms, but for the money - Google Sites can't be beat! Essentially, if you have a Google Account, you have free and unlimited access to Google Sites. Check out the items below to see exactly what Google Sites can do and how powerful Google Sites can be!
Google Sites offers 6 basic themes that can be fully customized to fit your tastes, needs and personality. Fonts, colors, images; everything! can be adjusted however you like.
With Google Sites you can Insert a Header Image and adjust how it looks: from a standard Banner, Large Banner to a full Cover Image with a "scroll" arrowhead to view the rest of the page. Or you can have no Header Image at all and opt for a Title Only.
With Google Sites you can insert Text, upload Images (one or several at a time), Embed another website into your website (if permissions allow) and insert items from Google Drive.
Google Sites has what they call Content Blocks. Content blocks are a uniform way of formatting images and text together and keeping things nice and tidy.
This is an example of a Collapsible Group. Click the Down Arrow ---->
A Collapsible Group is perfect for Frequently Asked Questions, Menu Items or basically any text that you want available on the web page but maybe not readily visible.
Insert a Table of Contents
By inserting a Table of Contents, Google Sites will automatically create a Table of Contents from any Heading or Subheading on the current web page. Click on the links and see how Google Sites will take you to that section on the web page.
Insert an Image Carousel
An Image Carousel is the perfect tool for showcasing a series of images on your website! Image Carousel's can be tweaked to: Show dots, Show captions, Auto start and adjust Transition speed from Very Slow, Slow, Medium and Fast.
Insert a Button
Buttons are a great addition to any website! If you happen to sell items a Button can take viewers to an "Item Detail" page or even link to another website.
Insert a Divider
The Divider is the simplest of all features. It bascially separates the web page into different sections, perhaps based on topic, color, images - whatever is needed!
Insert a Spacer
The other simple feature of Google Sites is the Spacer. Unfortunately you won't be able to see the Spacer on a finished website - and that's actually the whole idea. Similar to a Divider, the Spacer is meant to separate sections.
Insert a Placeholder
A Placeholder is essentially an Image Placeholder, but can also be used as a Spacer, if needed.
Insert a YouTube Video
With Google Sites you can insert a YouTube video (or several) anywhere throughout your website. Just be sure to give proper attribution if you're not the creator or owner. :)
