Hi, I'm Rick. My first computer was a Sanyo MBC-550! For those who know PC's this thing sported an 8088/16 bit processor with a 4.77 Mhz clock - whoo hoo! But for a first and free computer that ol' Sanyo was the bomb. On it, I learned to program in Sanyo BASIC and GW Basic, learned WordStar and CalcStar, which were forerunners to WordPerfect and VisiCalc respectively, and mastered DOS 2.11 and 3.30.
During this time I was working as a Mail Clerk at the Tupperware World Headquarters in Kissimmee, Florida. The Mail Center was across the parking lot from the IT Center. I always wanted to work in that IT Center...
Because of my interest in learning all I could about computers, software, hardware and even the history of computing devices such as ENIAC and punched card systems, I was able to land a job as a Help Desk Analyst at ... you guessed it! Tupperware World Headquarters in the IT Center!
Here I learned about IBM's 16/4 Token Ring, Ethernet 10 Base T and a bit of IBM MVS mainframe operating system. The star of the show (at that time) was Novell Netware 3.X. I jumped all over that network OS and learned all I could! It was at this time I decided to work as a Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator.
My time at Tupperware wasn't very long as my position was under contract, so when the term ran out I sought LAN Admin work elsewhere. This search brought me to Pepsi-Cola in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as an Uptime System Engineer monitoring over 300 Novell servers across the country. Eventually I would go on to earn my Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) credentials.
After leaving Pepsi, I started on a free-lance consulting career that would have me placed with many Fortune 500 companies to include Volvo/GM Heavy Truck, Sara Lee Direct, Coca-Cola, First USA, SunTrust Bank and many more...
The family and I had moved back to Orlando. Back home I did a consulting gig for a local company in Maitland, Florida to perform a Y2K analysis on hardware and software compatibilty for the dreaded roll over!
After Y2K came and went and the Earth did not implode, I ventured into other industries but continued to learn HTM/HTML coding, website design, development and management on various platforms such as Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, Site123 and Square. Eventually Google Sites became my go-to website builder. And here was the begining of webwurld...
