One of the key challenges when electrifying social institutions (SIs) with PV Stand-alone Systems is ensuring their sustainability, which is jeopardized by inadequate installation, malfunctions, low quality components, poor monitoring, and insufficient funding for operation and maintenance.
To address this challenge and to improve the sustainability of PV installations all key stakeholders have to be aware of key sustainability aspects, including political-legal, organizational administrative, technological, economic-financial, environmental, and social dimensions.
In light of the problems outlined above, the main objective of this website is to present in the form of a framework and several documents guiding principles to ensure better and longer-lasting use of PV Stand-alone Systems for SIs. Based on a holistic approach, all core processes needed to provide SIs with electricity based on stand-alone Systems are covered, namely planning and design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, operation and maintenance, repair and replacement of components, and end of life management.
