In this activity, we were working on is about highlighting the struggles and triumphs of a slow learner, with a focus on kindness, support, and personal growth. In our role play, Star is the student who struggles with schoolwork, and Drei, the school president, helps her. Their friendship develops into something more as they spend time together, and despite the bullying Star faces, the support from Drei and the guidance counselor helps her improve. At the end of the story, Star not only becomes better at her studies but also realizes the value of kindness, and the bullies learn a lesson in empathy.
When our teacher told us to watch the documentary “Iskul Ko, No. 1” and “Napag-Iwanan” of Kara David, We realized about the challenges faced by students in underprivileged areas, particularly in Sindangan Elementary School in Samar and the important issues faced by marginalized communities in the Philippines, particularly the Aetas in Barangay Maruglu, Capas, Tarlac, it emphasized their resilience despite a lack of resources and the lack of access to essential services such as healthcare and education, leading to high incidences of diseases like goiter, is indeed a tragic reality for these communities. It serves as an eye-opener, motivating viewers to appreciate their own educational opportunities and strive for excellence, no matter the circumstances. This activity encourages empathy, reflection, and a reminder that success is determined by effort, not just resources— By advocating for policy changes and raising awareness, the documentary calls for collective action to ensure that no Filipino is left behind.
Narrative Report about the Application of DIASS in CBI Short Film
The Film Fest is part of the Community-Based Initiative (CBI) for Grade 12 HUMSS students. One of the subjects included in this initiative is Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences (DIASS). As part of our project, we created a film that highlights important social issues, including the impact of bullying and the role of counseling in addressing such problems.
In one of the scenes, Dein tells her father that she has been bullied at school. Her father also learns about the bullying through a classmate’s social media post. The film shows how counseling is applied when Dein gathers the courage to share her experience with her father. After listening to his daughter, the father decides to report the incident to the school.
Through this scene, we aim to raise awareness about the harmful effects of bullying. We want to convince others to stop bullying, as it negatively affects victims physically, emotionally, and mentally. Our film serves as a reminder that bullying should never be tolerated and that seeking help through counseling and proper reporting can lead to solutions and support for those affected.
