On
Mathematical Modelling of Atmospheric Vortices
Department of Mathematics,
Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh
ABOUT THE WEBINAR
Mathematical modelling plays an important role in analyzing the physical behaviour of real-life problems by involving the multidisciplinary domains of science and engineering. The Government of India has recently announced the National Education Policy which is focusses on interdisciplinary studies and research by involving the multidisciplinary domains of science and engineering and their application in various fields. This webinar provides an introduction to mathematical modelling and applications to atmospheric vortices such as whirlwinds, dust-devils, tornadoes and tropical cyclones etc. It will provide participants with the necessary fundamental knowledge of mathematical modelling to solve the problems of atmospheric vortices and other real-life problems. This webinar also covers the current and future applications to solve the problems using mathematical modelling concepts through different mathematical tools including mathematical modelling through differential equations.
About the Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics is an important constituent of the faculty of Basic Sciences since 2005, the year when it was established. The department offers two-years (Four Semesters) M.A./M.Sc. programme in Mathematics & Computing. In addition, the Department offers M. Phil. and Ph. D. programmes in Mathematics & Computing in different research areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics. The faculty members are specialized in various areas of Algebra, Analysis, Fluid Dynamics and Applied Mathematics. The department aims to train people who are oriented towards research and teaching in advanced areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics. The objectives of the Department are to impart quality education through M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph. D. programmes, promote theoretical and applied research, and develop interaction with other Departments of the university and other organizations.
About the Rajiv Gandhi University
The Rajiv Gandhi University (formerly Arunachal University) is the premier institution for higher education in the state of Arunachal Pradesh located at the picturesque tabloid of Rono Hills approximately 25 km away from the state capital Itanagar. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of the University on 4th February 1984 at Rono Hills. Ever since its inception, the University has been trying to achieve excellence and fulfill the objectives as envisaged in the University Act. The University was recognized as a Central University in the year 2007 established under the Act of Parliament. Being the lone Central University of the State at present there are Thirty-Six (36) Departments and Three (03) Institutes functioning under Eleven (11) Academic Faculties. The faculty members have been actively engaged in research activities. The University has been maintaining its academic credibility and has been recognized by UGC as a center with potential for excellence. Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), the lone central varsity in Arunachal Pradesh, has secured the second position among all central varsities in the country. Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh has also been awarded the title of Best Central University of the Year 2020 during the 3rd Himalayan Educators Summit-2020 & 3rd Divya Himgiri Himalayan State Education Excellence Award-2020 to recognize the efforts of leading educational institutes of the Himalayan States that are substantially contributing to the Education sector.

Head, Department of Mathematical Sciences
Indian Institute of technology (BHU), Varanasi
Prof. Sanjay Kumar Pandey is a Professor of Mathematics and the Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, India. He is also member of various educational bodies in India. His expertise lies in mathematical modelling, biomechanics, fluid mechanics, digital image processing and graph theory. His key findings in biomechanics include discovery of dilation of peristaltic waves to create high pressure in the distal esophagus, introduction of an intermediate layer of higher viscosity between the core and mucous layers to overcome constipation etc. His research group also discovered some interesting and fundamental characteristics of atmospheric whirl-winds. He has a large number of publications in top journals of international repute. He also serves as editorial board member of some research journals, and is the Executive editor (mathematics) of Journal of International Academy of Physical Sciences, Allahabad. He has also run research projects of various organizations as PI and Co-PI.
Prof. Pandey has wide expertise in teaching mathematics and computer science. As Professor-in-charge, Training and placement of his department, he brought his department on the top in terms of placement in his institute. His love for languages and literature made him a poet, litterateur, a vocal senator, an editor of the newsletter of his Institute etc.
