We work in project phases, each with a distinct focus. A core team ensures continuity and guidance, while rotating participants create opportunities for wide involvement. An expanding network operating across diverse domains continues to amplify our impact. Through shared commitment and collaboration, this growing alliance raises awareness and drives change across cities and communities worldwide.
Our initiative was born simultaneously in Berlin-Staaken, Germany, and Tanga, Tanzania in 2024. At its heart is a partnership rooted in solidarity, active engagement, and shared responsibility.
While Germany and Tanzania remain its foundation, HAKI SASA is building a global movement, connecting communities everywhere, regardless of location or background, working together toward equity, justice, and meaningful social transformation.

Staaken, one of Berlin’s most socially dynamic districts, provided fertile ground for our emergence. Here, the Gemeinwesenverein Heerstraße-Nord e.V., a renound community organisation in Berlin-Staaken, collaborates with partners like Engagement Global and other local and international supporters.

From a longstanding church partnership between the two cities, HAKI SASA emerged as a secular initiative that transcends religious boundaries and welcomes participants of all ages, genders and ethnicities – encompassing individuals from every walk of life.
HAKI SASA was conceived to confront the shared imperial past between Germany and Tanzania, providing crucial context for understanding contemporary challenges and opportunities.
Project initiators Heike Holz (Germany) and Godfrey Sawe (Tanzania) envisioned a platform for inclusive exchange and collaborative action.
***
The first project phase explored colonial history, climate justice, and broader social issues through exchange visits, theater productions, workshops, and collaborative projects, supported by a wide network of local and international partners and establishments.

Since education is central to our work, HAKI SASA collaborates with schools like Elohim Education Center in Tanzania to foster learning, dialogue, and engagement among students and participants.
The next phase, HAKI SASA 2.0, expands our focus to education as a pathway to justice, addressing gender inequality and promoting equitable opportunities in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our dedicated team comprises members from diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds, providing broad opportunities for participation in HAKI SASA.
Drawing on varied life experiences and educational expertise, we cultivate an inclusive space where each individual is empowered to fully realize their strengths and contribute meaningfully within their role in the partnership initiative.
