Safety Town is a comprehensive accident prevention and awareness program for children entering kindergarten in the West Deptford School District. During this two-week course, children learn about dangers associated with fire, poison, strangers, traffic, transportation, home, playground, animals, and toys. They also participate in safety activities in the indoor classroom, as well as in a miniature town setting consisting of houses, sidewalks, and crosswalks. In a classroom setting, students are visited by many community helpers such as police officers, firefighters, EMTs, a pharmacist, and a lifeguard, to name a few. Teen volunteers assist students in all activities and help to reinforce lessons given by our classroom instructors.
This year, Safety Town will be held at Red Bank Elementary School.
