FAQ
Why is practice not immediately after school? This is to accommodate travel time from all WDP schools.
Where will practice be? Practices will be held in the Hemlock Creek Gym! This is considered the "home space" for the grades 3-8 dance teams.
When will practice be? Practices will be Tuesdays/Thursdays in October/November, with performances being the holiday parade (Nov 22) and the Showcase event (Nov 25)
What if I can't make the scheduled practice times? Missing one or two days will not be a big deal, however, if the dance schedule overlaps a prior commitment, It would be very difficult for your dancer to learn the choreography to perform if they are not present at least 75% of the time.
What will the showcase in November be like? The PDC Showcase will feature all of our West De Pere teams! You will see Phantoms youth, Junior Phantoms, IS Dance Team, MS Dance team and more! It is an evening full of dancing, baked goods, raffle baskets and fun! Any family, friends or fans are welcome to come.
How does this team differ from other pom classes or dance classes in the community? School based dance technique is it's own style... there are specific rules that school dance abides by, specific styles and placements of moves that differs from studio/rec, etc. The best way to prepare for school dance team is to learn from school dance coaches or other school based dancers! It may seem early, but believe us...it is never too early to start preparing for school dance team (IS, middle or high school)!
Do students need dance experience? No, all are welcome to come learn our style. Experience will help, however, it is not required.
What do I need for practice? Dancers should wear all black (leggings, shorts, skort, leo, etc.). Hair should be pulled back with no jewelry. Tan jazz shoes required. Bring a water bottle!
What is my role as a parent? Bring your dancer to/from events, sit back and enjoy the show! Be supportive of the coaches and ensure your dancer is respectful and kind to all.
How much does it cost to be on the team? In addition to the items below, Dancers will be required to sell 1 box of seroogys chocolates to cover their uniform user fee for the season. The upfront cost for this is $100, however, you will be "paid back" as you sell the candy. The team will earn $50 per box. if you choose to opt out of selling, the upfront cost is $50. Tights and shoes are needed, but can be carried over from season to season and onto IS/MIDDLE school if you order the ones below!
