The pre-conference provides an opportunity for the Clinical Educator and intern to connect before the formal observation. This conversation sets the tone for a supportive, growth-focused experience.
Use the Pre-Observation Checklist and Discussion Guide to prepare for and structure your conversation. Discuss lesson goals, instructional strategies, classroom context, and any areas where the intern seeks feedback or support.
The pre-conference helps interns clarify their instructional intentions, reflect on their planning, and identify focus areas for professional growth. It also ensures that both the intern and Clinical Educator have a shared understanding of the lesson objectives and observation expectations.
Approach the observation as a key component of the intern’s professional growth. Use the form to structure your observation and intentionally focus on the intern’s teaching performance, instructional strategies, classroom management, and student engagement. Your careful, attentive observation provides the foundation for meaningful feedback that can shape their development as an educator.
In the “Areas of Future Focus” section, identify 1–3 specific skills, strategies, or areas for improvement. Your feedback should be clear, constructive, and actionable, offering concrete suggestions the intern can implement to enhance their teaching practice. Thoughtful feedback helps the intern reflect, make informed adjustments, and grow professionally.
