Distance Learning: Distance education is an extension of the WCS classroom. Google Meet and Google Classroom are the primary platforms for our distance learning classes.
Live Instruction: Direct teacher-student engagement in a live virtual classroom mirroring a traditional classroom environment as much as possible. Attendance is taken in each ‘Live Instruction’ Class session. If students miss class, teachers will follow WCS policy as it pertains to missing work/assignments.
Autonomous Learning: Teachers may utilize the ‘Autonomous Learning’ sessions of their classes in a variety of ways. This may include assessments, classwork, pre-reading or other assignments designed to prepare for the next class meeting or science lab activities. (*AP/Honors Classes may use this Autonomous Learning to engage students in ‘Live Instruction’ class sessions.)
Teacher Connection: Every day from 2:30-3:00, teachers will be available for students who have questions about assignments or their lessons. Students may access their teachers during this time, via email or Google Meet. This is designed to provide extra support as needed. Communication may be sent at other times of the day but may not be answered immediately due to teaching constraints.
Treat online learning as if you are on campus:
Arrive to ‘Live Instruction’ classes on time.
Participate fully in your online class.
Complete assignments on time.
Stay focused.
Always do your best.
Collaborate with peers using respectful language and behaviors.
Wear attire appropriate for school, following the WCS Royals dress code.
Don’t be on your cell phone or any other ‘extra’ device during class.
Discipline and classroom procedures will be adapted for each teacher’s digital classroom.
Misbehaviors will be corrected in class.
Repeat violators will be referred to the Principal or Vice-principal for disciplinary action.
Handbook Policies Apply: Follow all established school and classroom rules, learning expectations, and behavior expectations outlined in the WCS Parent-Student Handbook.
Learning Environment: Create a quiet space where you can focus on your schoolwork, whether you’re having live instruction or autonomous learning. Try to work at a table or desk.
Supplies Needed for Class: Laptop, Chromebook, or desktop, with a functioning keyboard, camera and microphone. Headphones are highly recommended. You will also need your textbooks, paper, and pen.
How to Attend your ‘Live Instruction’ Classes:
Use Google Chrome as your required browser. Download Chrome (if you haven’t already)
Log in with your WCS school email and password.
Log into your ‘Live Instruction’ classes using Google Meet every day 5 minutes before class begins, using the teacher’s last name and the period number. (For example--Mrs. Pounder’s 1st period class would use the Google Meeting code: pounders1)
Attendance: Students are required to attend all ‘Live Instruction’ classes. Attendance will be taken in all ‘Live Instruction’ classes and standard attendance policies apply. Attendance is taken constantly through ‘Live Instruction’ class sessions and attendance records will be maintained in the WCS office for every class.
Google Classroom: This is where all classwork and homework assignments will be found, along with all necessary materials your teacher has provided for you. Students are responsible to check each Google classroom daily and to complete all assignments on time.
Helpful Tip: Install the Google Classroom Mobile App on your phone. This helps with tracking when assignments are due and provides easy access to your Google Classrooms.
Having Trouble? If you are having technical difficulties and miss any ‘Live Instruction’, you must email the teacher and make them aware of your issues. Students are responsible to let teachers know if this occurs.
Check your daily schedule for information about class times and specifically when you have “Live Instruction’ and ‘Autonomous Learning’ each day.
‘A’ Days have’ Live Instruction’ in Periods 1, 2, and 3, with ‘Autonomous Learning’ for those periods after each ‘Live Instruction’ class session.
‘B’ Days (Middle School) have’ Live Instruction’ in Periods 5, 6, and 7 with ‘Autonomous Learning’ for those periods after each ‘Live Instruction’ class session.
‘B’ Days (High School) have’ Live Instruction’ in Periods 4, 6, and 7 with ‘Autonomous Learning’ for those periods after each ‘Live Instruction’ class session.
On the days you do not have ‘Live Instruction’ via Google Meet, all students are still required to check all Google Classrooms to see all work given for that day, and must complete all assignments by the expected due date and time.
If assigned as homework, classwork is due at 8:00 am on the due date (if you turn it in after that, late work penalties apply). Please pay close attention to all due dates for homework.
Wednesday during a typical 5-day week is referred to as a ‘C’ schedule day. There is no ‘Live Instruction’ on Wednesdays. Instead, students should work to complete all assignments for all classes. Students must check all their classes in Google Classroom to make sure no assignments are missed.
Chapel: Chapel will be live every Wednesday from 9:10 – 9:50 through Google Meet. Attendance will be taken and is required of students.
Discipleship: This is a new “Class” on Wednesdays, happening immediately after Chapel from 10:00 – 10:30. Student discipleship classes are held in their 1st period ‘Homeroom’ class. 1st period teachers will be facilitating reflection and discussion questions related to chapel. Attendance is mandatory, and attendance will be taken for Discipleship.
***HS students receive “Service Hours” credit for attending chapel and discipleship.
***MS students receive participation points in Bible class for attending chapel and discipleship.
Read and/or watch everything the teacher posts for each assignment.
If the teacher is walking you through sample problems or pages, take notes and write down the work as its being explained.
Print out notes the teacher provides and take additional notes as you listen to the lecture.
When you are watching a video for class, pause it if you need more time. Re-watch if needed.
Make sure to complete all assignments. If part of an assignment is confusing, message your teacher and ask for help.
All assignments are located in the ‘Classwork’ section of your Google Classroom. While you can reference your To-Do List or Upcoming Events, those sections do not contain every resource that your teacher expects you to reference and make use of.
You will mostly have Assignments to complete with posted due dates. Sometimes you will have quizzes with posted due dates.
You may also have ‘Questions’ or ‘Materials’ posts. These do not have due dates, but your teacher expects you to read them and complete the activities/use the materials given, even if no due date is given.
All assignments should be submitted through Google Classroom. Do not email them to your teacher. Teachers will give instructions about how to submit assignments.
While grades and feedback are given by teachers for individual assignments in Google Classroom, they are not your official grades and should not be used for determining your overall grade in the class. In other words, Google classroom is a place where many grades are recorded, but not all grades!
In Google Classroom, teachers will return assignments once they are graded; it is very important that you read any and all comments/feedback within that returned assignment. Teachers will then record all grades in their official gradebook. (NOT on Google Classroom)
Your official grades for assignments, projects and assessments can be accessed through our school website:
Go to our website: www.wcss.org
Select the ‘Inside WCSS’ tab.
Select “My Academics” to find your grades. These are the official grades for all classes.
Academic integrity is:
doing your best on every assignment
turning in assignments on time
claiming ownership of ideas and writing that are original
making up missed work as assigned
answering teachers honestly
Academic integrity is not:
plagiarism of other people’s work
cheating in any form
copying-and-pasting work from other sources
***These actions will not be tolerated on any assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, essays, or any other writing assignment.
Guidelines for academic integrity in distance learning:
Quizzes and Exams- Complete all quizzes, tests, and final exams yourself, without any external help or communication.
Written Assignments- Written assignments should be your own original work. In formal assignments, follow MLA style to cite ideas and words of your research sources. Unless otherwise directed by your teacher, no one else should revise or rewrite your work.
Collaboration and Informal Peer Review- Classes may include opportunities for informal collaboration and working together with classmates. While study groups and peer-review of major written projects is encouraged, remember that comparing answers on a quiz or assignment is not permitted. If you are unsure about a particular situation, please talk to your teacher ahead-of-time.
Group Projects- Classes may include group projects, which can be challenging for students when it comes to dividing work, taking credit, and receiving grades and feedback. Always be truthful about the amount of work you and your classmates have completed.
Teacher Connection is available to all students each day from 2:30 – 3:00. Teachers will be available for emails, Google Meets, or other contact for student support. Communication may be sent at other times of the day but may not be answered immediately due to teaching constraints.
Teachers may make announcements to the class using the ‘Stream’ in Google Classroom. Make sure to check it daily.
Teachers may leave comments in Google Classroom, most often regarding specific assignments. If a comment is left for you, you will receive an email to your g-mail account letting you know it’s there, with a link straight to the comment. Make sure to check your g-mail account daily.
If you're having a problem (especially a technical issue), tell your teacher right away! Don't wait! Make sure that you are communicating with your teacher so that your teacher can help you -- if you wait until after the due date/time (for example), it may be too late and nothing can be done.
Make sure to sign into your Google Classroom before the first day of school, using the code provided on your class schedule. Check your classes and see any welcome messages or announcements that your teacher has left for you.
Check your Distance Learning Schedule to know the days and times that you are signing in for ‘Live Instruction’ for each of your classes.

The Meeting Code is the last name of your teacher and the class period you are trying to join. (i.e. for Mrs. Firetag's third period class, you would type in Firetag3 )
You can also find the Google Meeting nickname code for your class in the banner of your Google Classroom. This is a great way to double check you're going to the right place!
Turn your CAMERA ON and your MICROPHONE OFF.
You may see a pop-up at the top of your screen to ‘Allow Google Meet’ to access your camera and microphone. Select Allow.
Click Join and you're in class!
Please Remember:
Your camera must remain on throughout the entire Meet.
You must mute your mic unless it’s your turn to talk. You can hold down the space bar to speak, and when you let it go it will automatically mute you again.
