7th World Congress of Paraconsistency

September 2-6, 2024  Oaxaca, Mexico

Thank you...!

We want to thank all the parties that made the 7th World Congress of Paraconsistency possible.

First of all, many thanks to YOU for trusting us to organize the event. Without your contributions, this conference's high quality would not have been possible.

Second of all, we want to thank the host institution, in particular the Chairperson of the Institute for the Research in the Humanities-UABJO, Francisco José Ruiz Cervantes. (He was, among other things, the mastermind behind the memorable coffee breaks and the Monte Albán tour.) In addition, the help of Alfonso Gazga and Débora Vásquez was unparalleled: they worked every day of the conference from 7 AM to 9 PM to ensure that everything went smoothly. We also thank Karina Guadalupe Salinas Martínez for her help dealing with the dark universe of Oaxacan paperwork. Needless to mention the help of the students: Getze, Alexandra, Axel, Carlos, Cynthia, Huitzi, and Ivette; they carried out the event marvelously ---especially considering that it was the first philosophy conference ever that they were part of!

Third, we want to acknowledge the support of UNAM. Thanks to the financial support of Luis (and Axel)'s PAPIIT project, the Institute for Philosophical Research, and the Graduate Program in Philosophy of Science, we could significantly lower the registration fees, making the event more accessible to international students and Latin American participants. Thanks also to the organizers of LANMR, who helped us handle a last-moment problem caused by a participant who did not pay the registration fee but still managed to trick the students to get a receipt, and then disappeared after giving his talk.

See you in the next WCP!

Maria and Luis on behalf of all WCP7-committees

The sixteenth edition of the Latin American Workshop series on Logic/Languages, Algorithms and New Methods of Reasoning (LANMR) will happen as a satellite of WCP7.

Our logo and poster are inspired by alebrijes, some of the most popular expressions of Oaxacan folk art. Alebrijes are wood sculptures of fantastical (fantasy/mythical) creatures, often a combination of different real and fantastic animals, which are full of color and imagination ...as well as of inconsistencies and impossibilities!

Paraconsistent logic is a family of theories on what can be logically concluded from contradictions, different from the family of theories according to which contradictions entail everything. By touching on core areas of theoretical inquiry, such as truth, falsity, logicality, negation, or rationality, paraconsistent logic has opened new research directions in philosophy, science, and technology.

Within the tradition of previous world congresses on paraconsistency, WCP7 aims to show the importance of paraconsistent logic, its connection with other knowledge domains, and the variety of approaches to the topic.
