Conference Policies
Awards
Although they are not the main purpose of the conference, awards are earned by delegates based on their impact on committee. This includes, but is not limited to, innovativity and practicality of solutions, strength of leadership and oratory skills, degree of diplomacy, and level of research presented in position papers. Individual delegates are eligible to receive the traditional Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Mention, and Verbal Commendation awards. In addition, the Book Award will be given to the delegate in each committee who is the most well-researched. Schools will be eligible for the Best Large Delegation, Best Small Delegation, and the Kristin C. Zhu Diplomacy Award. The first two awards will be determined based on a ratio system and the median delegation size at the time registration closes. Kristin Zhu is a Winston Churchill High School Model United Nations alumna who drastically changed this club for the better. This conference would not be possible without her, and it is our honor to present the Kristin C. Zhu Diplomacy Award in her name. At the conclusion of the conference, schools that received certificate awards will be emailed PDFs of each award. Schools that received Best Delegate, Best Small Delegation, Best Large Delegation, and the Kristin C. Zhu Diplomacy awards will be mailed gavels and plaques.
Bullying and Harassment
Bullying and harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at WINMUNC II. If a delegate uses discriminatory or derogatory language, especially if it is directed at another delegate, they will be disqualified from receiving an award. This may also result in disqualification for delegation awards. Sponsors and head delegates will be notified immediately. In the event that a delegate experiences or witnesses bullying and harassment at WINMUNC II, they should quickly notify the secretariat by emailing wchsmun123@gmail.com with a detailed description of what happened.
Cybersecurity (For Virtual Committees only)
Committee links will be emailed to sponsors and head delegates a few days before the conference. Delegates are strictly prohibited from joining committee links that are not their own and sharing links with anyone not assigned to their committee. Only WINMUNC II secretariat and staff members, head delegates, and sponsors are allowed to enter committees they are not participating in. If a head delegate or sponsor wishes to observe a committee, they should rename themselves to “Name (Head Delegate)” or “Name (Sponsor)” upon entry please.
Dress Code
All delegates are expected to wear Western Business Attire for the duration of the conference. This includes, but is not limited to, blazers, blouses, dress pants, dress shirts, suits, and ties.
Photography and Videography (For Virtual Committees only)
According to MCPS Zoom policy, pictures and videos cannot be “stored, recorded, or shared” in violation of consent. If any pictures or videos are taken without the consent of all parties, the delegate or delegates who took them will be disqualified from receiving an award. This may also result in disqualification for delegation awards. Sponsors and head delegates will be notified immediately.
Plagiarism
If a delegate copies work that is not their own or work from a past committee that is their own or someone else’s, they have committed plagiarism. In the event that a delegate has plagiarized all or parts of position papers, working papers, public directives, private directives, and/ or resolutions submitted during WINMUNC II, they will be disqualified from receiving an award. This may also result in disqualification for delegation awards. If a delegate is suspected of plagiarism, WINMUNC II staff members reserve the right to use plagiarism checkers.
Position Papers
All delegates participating in a General Assembly or Specialized Agency are required to submit an original position paper to be eligible for an award. Position papers should be shared with the designated committee staff emails, which will be given at the start of the first committee session. Position papers should be three paragraphs long, excluding footnotes and bibliographies. The first paragraph should focus on the history of the issue according to your country, the second paragraph should describe current actions your country has taken to address it, and the third paragraph should focus discuss solutions your country will advocate for in committee and how they will realistically be accomplished. Delegates participating in Shell Board of Directors, 1993 do not have to submit position papers. If a delegate has any specific position paper questions, they are encouraged to reach out to the chair and co-chair of their committee.
Prewriting
Prewriting, or the writing of any parts of resolution papers or directives prior to the start of committee, is strictly prohibited at WINMUNC I. Any delegate who is found to have pre-wrote any resolution paper or directive will be immediately disqualified. This may also result in disqualification for delegation awards.
