An empty plot of land, a need in the community, and some tenacity, The Washington County Community Garden was established in 2007 as a project of the Ozaukee County Master Gardeners. Area residents have the opportunity to “rent” a 15’ x 20’ plot for $25 each growing season (April – November). Though it isn’t designated as an "organic" site, it is as close as possible given the varied backgrounds of the gardeners.
Over 75 plots are available for experienced and new gardeners and non-profit organizations. More than 1500 gardeners have maintained a plot during the past 15 years. It’s also home to a registered Little Free Library and active beehives. It’s a place where dirty hands are okay; where growing lettuce, peppers, beans, garlic, peas, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes and of course, the beloved zucchini, are revered!
