"Mr. Allen presented a very detailed lesson and students kept up with the pace of the class. The students used the various color zones to optimize their learning environment. Student's overall worked with little distractions and engaged with their partners or groups. To reinforce student learning they had resources available via Google Classroom and the internet."
Mr. Jones, Principal - Twentynine Palms Jr. High School
I would say that a lot of my students came in this year with a sense of being overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with being back in the school setting. Overwhelmed with the expectations put on them from Day 1 in each class. Overwhelmed with how mean and rude many of the other students were to one another until more the last month and a half. Overwhelmed with being in close contact with people again after nearly 2 years of virtual learning.
Along the way I took class time to help talk to them about strategies to help them become successful. Sometimes these were done by tying in special topics, like Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech and his "Blueprint" speech where I would then connect the themes of his speeches to how if there was one thing they took away from this school year was that I believed in them and their ability to achieve any goals that they set for themselves.
Through this and the ways that I not only taught, but spoke to the students both in and out of class, I was able to make a lot of meaningful connections with my students. Sometimes these connections came from doing something as simple as going outside when my Team was not on duty both before and after school and evening opening my classroom during lunches to help give students a place to escape drama during unstructured times. In the classroom this has led to many students doing what I ask with very little extra prompting. This is not only in my own classroom but when I sub around campus or even during unstructured time.
Student Work Samples
A dream I have for the future is that disabled people will be treated the same as an able bodied person. I have this dream because I see many disabled people in the media that get treated unfairly by the people that are meant to help take care of them. Many workplaces and schools also discriminate against disabled people because some people think that disabled people cannot live a normal life like everybody else. One way I feel this discrimination against disabled people can stop is if workplaces and schools started making more accommodations towards people with disabilities. In schools they should teach students that disabled people really aren't much different than people without disabilities. People with disabilities have a higher rate of being neglected and going through forms of sexual or physical abuse and it is truly unfair that people treat disabled people like they aren't human.

A sample of a student generated constitution for their own country. Where students made up a series of rights for the people that they represented. This one came from a group of 5 students from an 8th grade U.S. History class.

Anti-Bullying & Anti-Drug BMX Assembly May 3 - 2022
My work with the kids led to an interesting incident during our BMX Assembly. When the BMX crew asked for staff volunteers to come out and become an obstacle for them to jump over I had a huge crowd suddenly turn on me and start pushing me forward to go. The images to the right showcase what it led to.
