Donation - In School
Last semester we held a donation activity. Our plan was to collect items like blankets or dog treats and donate them to Mrs. Chang Animal Protection Organization. We went to every class in our school and gave presentations about our club and donation. Preparation of the presentation took us quite a while because we want to let people be more aware of the conditions of stray dogs; therefore, a lot of research is required. We hope to raise public awareness and some empathy so that the donation would be more successful. We told them stories of stray dogs, including the bad environment they live in, incidents that might happen to them, and how they are treated after being found.
After the presentation, almost every class gave us something to donate. We got a lot of blankets and two sacks of dog treat. We were really happy to know that many people are willing to help those stray dogs. One sack of the dog treat was even from our teacher. She has cats herself, and she thought our donation was really meaningful and wanted to help. We were really thankful to her and other students who also donated. We kept those donations in our class for a while and contacted Mrs. Chang Animal Protection Organization. They were happy to know that we were going to donate to them.
One weekday at noon, we left our school to mail the donation. Although the post office was only a couple of minutes away, it took us almost half an hour to get there because the sack of treats was almost twenty kilograms. We switch hands and rested many times during the walk. Finally, we got to the post office. Then, we met another problem. The mailbox was too big. We had to cut the box and compress it. That also took us a while. When everything was finally set, we went back to our school.
Donation - In Public
In a nutshell, the donation was successful. although we encountered many difficulties during the whole process of preparing, it was totally worth it. We visited other animal shelters before. Many of the dogs were injured or mistreated, but they were all happy in the animal shelter where they don’t have to starve or get into fights. They are finally at a place where they could be safe and not have to worry about not having food for weeks. This is the effort of many people, and now we became one of them. (by Sean)
