For ALL evaluations

Please include the following items in your portfolio:

• Some form of attendance tracker or school calendar with school days marked. 

• A log showing the titles of the books and instructional materials used in your homeschool program. 

• Samples of your student’s work from the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.  This should include:

  •  3-5 total pages for each main subject covered 

  • 2-3 pages for each elective.  

  • Please don’t bring cumbersome projects or large works of art to in-person evaluations… a photo of these will be sufficient if you wish to include them!

• Proof of standardized testing if your student is in grades 3, 5, or 8. * See notes on testing below.

For high school evaluations:

Please include all of the above PLUS the following:

• A copy of your transcript (I can help you with this if needed).

• Brief descriptions of your student's coursework.

• Results of any PSAT, SAT, ACT, CLEP or AP exams ** See notes on testing below.

Additional Notes on High School Diplomas:

If this is your student’s senior year, please bring a full-color, printed copy of the Supervisor Issued Diploma from the Pennsylvania Department of Education website. I recommend having the diploma laser printed on high quality paper at a place like Staples or the UPS store. Prior to printing, please read all of the included instructions (page 2) provided by the PDE. The diploma is an editable PDF, so you can either fill in your student’s full name, the scheduled date of the 12th grade evaluation, and the name of your school district in the spaces provided before printing, or write / calligraphy them after printing. We will both sign the diploma in ink during the evaluation. After the evaluation, MAKE SEVERAL COPIES of the signed diploma and transcript and keep them on file!!!

For virtual evaluations, you will need to mail the diploma to me WITH DETAILS ALREADY FILLED IN. I recommend sending it in a USPS priority mail document mailer to keep it nice and un-creased. I will sign it and mail it back in a document mailer.

Additional Notes on Standardized Testing:

* Testing in grades 3, 5, and 8 is mandatory for homeschoolers according to Pennsylvania Law: 24 P.S. §13-1327.1. Home Education Program. There is no way around it. If you don't assign grade levels to your students, then go by age... 3rd = 8-9yrs old, 5th = 10-11yrs old, 8th=13-14yrs.  If you have a student in one of those grades (or age ranges), testing MUST be completed prior to your evaluation appointment. It’s not my job to comment on how your child did, just to confirm that the test was done. 

If you haven't completed the required testing, it's not too late! I highly recommend obtaining a CAT test through Academic Excellence. Tests can be done online at any time and there is an untimed option available. Also, nothing in the law says you have to have your student tested at their "grade level." YOU decide what level of test you want your student to take! 

** High school testing is optional! It really depends on your student's post high school goals.
