Personal Reflections
Personal Reflections
I have had opportunities in the past to casually and vaguely think that food is brought to us from overseas through a very difficult process. However, when I actually looked at the specific steps involved, I realized that much more work than I had imagined had gone into bringing the food to the stores. On top of that, I was once again grateful for the environment in which we are able to eat chicken at a very low price. It was also a good opportunity for me to reflect on how much waste I produce when I think about it on a yearly scale. I felt that this is why I want to actively avoid wasting anything that is past its expiration date. I am fearless when I think about the impact my personal waste has on the environment and the sustainability of that impact.
Alternative solution
If you look at what I posted for the second phase, you’ll see that there can be multiple trays of similar items. My goal is to buy only the amount of food that can be consumed in one meal at a time, rather than purchasing excessively large portions. The trays in the photo each contain 300 grams of chicken, but I’ve noticed that some supermarkets offer trays containing nearly 1 kg. Since these larger trays hold more chicken despite being similar in size, I realized that opting for the 1 kg option would be a more eco-friendly choice if I’m going to buy it anyway.
In addition to reducing packaging waste, purchasing the larger size would also allow me to cut down on the number of trips I need to make to the store, ultimately lowering my carbon footprint by saving gasoline. Small changes like these can add up and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.
At the very least, if I hadn’t been involved in this project, I probably wouldn’t have thought about my daily consumption in such detail. This experience has made me more conscious of my environmental impact, and I’m grateful to feel a growing sense of responsibility. It’s empowering to realize that even small adjustments in my habits can make a difference in fostering ecological awareness in my daily life.
