How do I know if my child is ready to join WASP?
If your child is new to WASP, we will take one week to evaluate the appropriate grouping for them. The expectation is the participant can swim the length of the pool on their front and their back.
My child has conflicting activities and cannot make all of the practices. Are they mandatory? No. Swim practices are offered Tues - Fri. You have the flexibility to choose which days work in your schedule. Understand that there is a direct correlation between improvement and practice attendance.
My child loves to swim, but is leery of competing. Can we join and skip all the meets? Absolutely. This club caters to the best competitive swimmer in the pool and to recreational swimmers who may be there for the love of the sport, the benefit of exercise, or the camaraderie it provides. You may participate in all of the meets or none -- it is up to you and your swimmer.
Do swim meets cost extra? Yes. Meets will usually cost between $25- $50.
Cost depends on the hosting facility’s fees and how many days the meet is. For 2-day meets you can choose to swim 1 or 2 days.
Where can I find information about meets? Information will be emailed out about swim meets but the Wisconsin Swimming website has information about USA Meets.
Where are the meets held and how long do they take? A meet schedule with locations has been included in this packet. Please understand that it is subject to change. Saturday meets typically run from about 8:00 am (with warm-up times prior to the start of the meet) until approximately 3:00 pm. Many meets are half days according to your swimmers age group. Ie: younger kids in the morning, older kids in the afternoon.
Can my child attend a meet even if I cannot? We are happy to help you set up a carpool if you cannot attend a meet your child would like to participate in.
Does my child have to swim in both winter and summer seasons? No. You may swim both seasons or just one. The more you swim, the more success and enjoyment you experience.
When will my child be “ready” to attend their 1st meet? Almost immediately your new swimmer can experience the fun of traveling to a meet since the coaching staff will choose events that will be successful for your child. Assume they are ready unless a coach expresses otherwise. Every meet we attend will have a first-timer!
We vacation over the summer and holidays. Should we get involved if we are going to miss a few weeks Yes! When you return we’ll pick up right where you left off. Better to miss a few weeks than a whole season!
What if I missed the meet registration deadline?
We will not be accepting any late registrations for Swim Meets. Due to scheduling deadlines by the hosting team. There are no exceptions.
What if I missed the registration deadline to sign up for WASP?
This will be decided on a case by case basis please reach out to a WASP board member for any information or assistance.
