Meet the Residents

In 2012 The Washington Square West Trust embarked on a project to create a video history of the Washington Square West neighborhood. We interviewed a number of residents, neighborhood pioneers, and early merchants to capture their thoughts and recollections of the neighborhood. View a compilation of the interviews below.

Jimmy Calnan — Retired educator and amateur historian. Wash West resident for over 25 years

David Guinn — Artist and life-long Washington Square West resident.

Mel Heifetz — Businessman. Wash West resident since his birth at Pennsylvania Hospital.

Sharri Horowitz — Co-founder of Friends of Seger Park Playground. McCall Elementary and Secondary Public School parent. Wash West resident for over 10 years. Named one of Philadelphia magazine’s 2013 “20 Best Philadelphians” for her work with Seger Park.

Jeff Lichtman — Former Washington Square West Civic Association Director. Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts parent. Wash West resident for over 20 years.

Seymour Millstein — Owner-Operator of Washington Square West Real Estate. Wash West resident for over 75 years.

Connie Moore — President and co-founder of the Friends of Louis I. Kahn Park. Wash West resident for over 30 years.

Virginia Trosino — Former Pine Street antique store proprietor and greening enthusiast. Wash West resident for over 40 years.
