2009

In the summer of 2009, the cannonballs were returned to the center of the square after more than fifty years in storage.

The Central Primary School opened and is dedicated to longtime administrator Kenneth Prater.

Kristy Howell was the recipient of the 2009 Washingtonian Award.

Kern Road was extended between Hillcrest and Cummings Lane.

The "Decorate for Dax" campaign had Washingtonians and people around the world decorating for Christmas a month early for Dax Locke, a 2-year-old Washington boy with Leukemia, given only weeks to live.  Locke passed away on December 30, 2009.
