In the summer of 2009 the cannonballs were returned to the center of the square after more than fifty years in storage.
The Central Primary School opened, dedicated to longtime administrator Kenneth Prater.
The "Decorate for Dax" campaign had Washingtonians and people around the world decorating for Christmas a month early for Dax Locke, a 2-year-old Washington boy with Leukemia given only weeks to live. Locke passed away December 30, 2009.
