The city of Washington created a Historic Preservation Commission.
In March, the WCHS boys basketball team became the first since 1962 to make it to the state finals. Their fourth-place finish was Washington's highest in nearly 100 years.
Pat & Glenn Essig were the 2008 recipients of the Washingtonian Award.
Menards held its grand opening on Freedom Parkway.
In 2008 former teacher, coach, and administrator Brian Wisher made a six-figure donation to the school to purchase new lights for the football field, as well as installation of lights on the baseball field for the first time. The first night baseball game was played in the spring of 2009.
WCHS began its swimming program for boys and girls.
