When Mayor Ronald Marshall decided to not seek re-election, three challengers stepped in: Don Gronewold, Roger Suddith, and Frankie Johnston. Gronewold would win decisively garnering 52% of the vote in the three-man race. Don would serve as Mayor until 2001.
The WCHS east gym is officially renamed the Raymond R. Torry Gymnasium upon his retirement. Torry was replaced as Superintendent by Lee Edwards.
Dr. David Krick joins the dentistry practice of Dr. Bud Engel.
The Carriage Park subdivision off North Main Street had its preliminary plat approved by the City.
With the help of the Fondulac Park District, the City of East Peoria, and the Washington Park District, Bill Maher spearheaded the planting of 25 trees in the median of Route 8 through Sunnyland.
