1867

It had been eight years since Washington had a newspaper, and in 1867 a man arrived in town with a press and printed the first issue of the new Washington newspaper, which apparently was impressive enough to acquire many advance subscriptions of what was to come, after which the man quietly left town, bilking many community members of their money, as well as hurting business for the next entrepreneur.

Severe drought hit Central Illinois making the Illinois River almost impassable and left most wells dry.
